Rev. Dr. Keith L. Whitney

Rev. Dr. Keith Linnaeus Whitney is the founding pastor of Sanctuary Fellowship Baptist Church. A native of Detroit, he was licensed for ministry in 1977 and ordained in 1980 under the guidance of his father, Rev. Dr. Samuel Leon Whitney.

Pastor Whitney has preached across the globe and served as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy from 1980–1987. He has observed elections in South Africa and Senegal, taught in theological seminaries, and held leadership roles in civic and spiritual organizations including MOSES and the NAACP.

A gifted teacher and passionate preacher, Pastor Whitney holds degrees from Virginia Union University, the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology, and United Theological Seminary. He has taught at Wayne County Community College and Ashland Theological Seminary. Pastor Whitney is also a member of the council Baptist Pastors of Detroit and Vicinity where he serves as Chairman of the Political and Social Action Committee. He is a lifelong servant of God, a scholar, and a community leader.

He is married to Annette Lockhart-Whitney, and together they are the proud parents of six children — Brandon, Laurence, Jarrett, Margaux, Martin Jr. and Lea — and grandparents of Zayn Ali
